Thanks to you Lee, we will be looking forward to updates to your comic. Fly safely in Elite: Dangerous!

*This is the original letter we received from Lee:

Hi, Mike & Alex—

Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad that you enjoy Fangs 🙂 Please feel free to write whatever you’d like.

I’m a sr editor at Ars Technica (http://arstechnica.com, http://arstechnica.com/author/lee-hutchinson/), a technology news site owned by Conde Nast. My background before Ars is in aerospace and enterprise IT (I worked at Boeing for about ten years when I got out of college in 2000). More than anything else, though, I’m a die-hard PC gamer and have been since I was about six years old. I loved the original Elite and played the original version for the first tiem probably in 1987, when it was released for MS-DOS here in the US.

I started doing “Fangs” almost as a joke—there was a post by /u/Vallkyrie on the Elite Dangerous subreddit where he took an Elite screenshot and filtered it to look like almost a 2000AD-style black and white line art image, and I thought it would be perfect for a few noir-style captions (post is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/2zdqgi/took_a_screenshot_of_my_ship_at_dock_played_with/ ). I liked how the images looked with captions, and I’d taken a bunch of 4k screenshots myself when writing my full Elite Dangerous review, and so I decided to try to make a silly little nonsense comic out of them—just a few frames, no real story, but heavy on atmosphere and tone.

Reddit and the E:D forums really liked it, though, and so I made a quick web site and did a few more—and then I found out that I really liked doing the comics, even though they’re a lot of work.

The first “book” of Fangs is parts 1-10, and it’s all individual unconnected stories. With book 2, which I just started a couple of weeks ago, I’m going to tell more of a traditional story, with real characters and an overarching plot—a romance, in fact, though I’m trying to make it as realistic as possible, without crazy drama and movie-style cliches. Just two normal people in love with each other (even though they happen to live and work in space).

Glad you guys like the comic, and I hope you enjoy book 2 as I publish more pieces of it. Thanks again 🙂
